clip
  • After the success of their first production, “OMG – Oh My God,” Grazing Goat Pictures co-producers Akshay Kumar and Ashvini Yardi are set to release their debut Marathi film “72 Miles: Ek Pravas” July 26.

A hard-hitting, poignant tale of a young boy who makes his journey into self-actualization against the backdrop of a rustic India, “72 Miles: Ek Pravas” explores the coming-of-age journey of 13-year-old Ashok and the relationships he forms along the way. The film aims to transport the audience into post-independence India as experienced by the protagonist Ashok.

Speaking about his latest venture, Kumar said, “‘72 Miles’ marks our first regional film, and we’re delighted to announce the release date. Marathi isn’t my first language but living in Mumbai, I picked up the language very quickly and immersed myself in the culture.I’ve seen some really interesting Marathi projects and love the cinema. I am personally touched by the story of ‘72 Miles,’ and I hope the audience likes it as much as we do,” he added Kumar and Yardi are confident their film will touch the hearts of audiences and give them a visual introspect of Ashok Vatkar’s autobiography. Inspired from a novel with the same name, “72 Miles: Ek Pravas” explores the impact of a woman named Raddhakka, on Ashok.

Yardi said, “It was my dream to produce a period film, and with ‘72 Miles,’ I have had the chance to do so. The subject and the plot of the film are so thought-provoking that it forces you to completely engage in the film, connect with the characters and grow with their thought.

“The film will definitely engage with international audiences despite the language barrier and will let them in on our heritage, our culture and a panoramic setting of post-independence India. I am sure the Marathi audience will be proud of this film.”

Akshay Kumar: Will talk about my friend Vindoo later

MUMBAI: Actor Akshay Kumar has cleared the air about his friendship with Vindoo Dara Singh, who has been arrested in the spot fixing scandal of the domestic T20 league. “I will talk about the IPL and my friend Vindoo later,” he said during a media interaction in Mumbai, recently. Vindoo, who is a reality TV show participant, has acted with Akshay in “Kambakkht Ishq” (2009).
Kumar has however denied having anything to do with the domestic T20 league or spot-fixing, even though he has admitted that Vindoo is his friend.
Meanwhile, the trailer of Akshay’s upcoming film “Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Again” shows him as the underworld don involved in cricket betting. But Akshay says, “It is just the character that I am playing. People should not connect it with anything.”
The film is due for release in India in August during Eid, along with Shah Rukh Khan’s “Chennai Express.” Asked if he’s worried about the films clashing, he says, “Eid is a big day. It is big enough for two films.”
Akshay Kumar has said that he is okay with his film Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai Again clashing with Shah Rukh Khan’s Chennai Express at the box office on Eid. “I don’t take it as Shah Rukh vs Akshay. Two films releasing together is a positive thing. Eid is a big day and both films will do well. One should not see too much into this, said Akshay to an Indian newspaper”
There were reports that Chennai Express producers UTV attempted to strike a deal with cinemas to buy the film in order to prevent Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Again from acquiring more screenings. A similar incident was reported last year by Ajay Devgn, who accused Yash Raj Films of enticing cinemas to exclusively show Shah Rukh starrer Jab Tak Hai Jaan, as opposed to his filmSon of Sardaar.
The trailer for Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai Again released this week to a strong positive response. Shooting for Chennai Express was wrapped up on 25 May, just before Shah Rukh had surgery this week to repair a shoulder injury.

Akshay Kumar recently at an event talked about the IPL spot fixing scandal. The actor has full faith on Indian judiciary and says that the law and order will take care of the wrongdoers. Akshay Kumar, whose co-star Vindoo Dara Singh has been arrested in an alleged spot fixing case, says whoever is wrong will be punished. "Whoever does anything wrong will be punished. I am sure that Indian law and order will take care of it. They will take the right decision and they are doing it for the good," Akshay told reporters during the launch of a special anthem for PVR directed by Shoojit SircarIn fact, the promo of Akshay Kumar's forthcoming gangster drama Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again opens with a cricket match scene, and he said: "This was shot two to three months back and it's not that we saw something and decided to put it. It was part of the film." Meanwhile, the actor is happy playing a villain in a sequel to 2010 movie Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, which had Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi in the lead roles. "I enjoyed myself doing this film. I never got to perform anything like this before. I completely enjoyed playing the villain character."
